Dietary Supplements

by admin

A dietary supplement is also known as food or nutritional supplement, the contents of which supply the nutrients required for the growth and development of the human body. The nutrients contain vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and proteins. If the food consumed by us does not contain these nutrients, then we fall back on these dietary supplements to make up for the deficit.  It is said that quite a few medical practitioners are not aware of the efficacy of dietary supplements, and their potential side effects. Some of the physicians are reluctant to admit the benefits of dietary supplements even though there is a lot of evidence and data in support of these dietary supplements.

Certain people like to concentrate on building their muscles and are always advised to take dietary supplements containing protein along with multi vitamins and minerals. These supplements contain essential vitamins like Vitamins C and E, which are anti-oxidants and are necessary for the body. Antioxidants are helpful in bodybuilding and protect the body from the ill effects of free radicals. These free radicals or unstable ions are formed due to the process of oxidation and tend to damage the body. They are produced when the body breaks down food or due to exposure of tobacco smoke or radiation. Free radicals damage cells and cause heart disease, cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
